Ajrakh is resist printing carried out in both directions: the cloth is printed, dyed, washed and printed again, so the pattern registers on the face and the reverse alike. Sixteen stages, each one dependent on river water, sun and the printer's judgement about when the cloth is ready for the next.

On modal silk the geometry sits differently than on cotton. The ground is fluid and cool, the indigo reads deeper, and the resist whites stay sharp against it.
